The diagnosis of tuberculosis (TB) is a collaborative process involving physicians and other health care providers, including clinical and reference laboratories. Before offering mycobacteriology services, each laboratory should assess the level of testing required at that site and the capacity and capability to provide these tests, in a safe and reliable manner.26,61 A complete questionnaire for the assessment of a laboratory’s capacity for handling Mycobacterium tuberculosis complex (MTBC) organisms can be found in the publication Mycobacterium tuberculosis: Assessing Your Laboratory, 2019 edition, produced by the Association of Public Health Laboratories.28 This appendix addresses specific standards for a Canadian mycobacteriology laboratory.
