In children, the TST and/or IGRA is an important part of the clinical case definition of TB disease, especially if there is a newly positive TST or IGRA. It should be noted that a negative TST or IGRA does not exclude TB disease and may occur in up to 30% of culture-confirmed cases.58 A positive TST or IGRA does not distinguish between TB infection and TB disease.
